As Republicans debate, leaders across Texas unite behind Bill White
Legislators say Bill White is the right choice for state's future

HOUSTON, TEXAS - Members of the Texas Legislature overwhelmingly endorsed former Houston Mayor Bill White as the best choice for the state's next Governor. As Republican gubernatorial candidates debate, Democratic leaders are united behind Bill White.

These legislators, with deep ties to their communities, believe Texans deserve a Governor who will move Texas forward. They represent areas from Lufkin to El Paso, Wichita Falls to McAllen and include both rural and urban districts.

Many cited White's business background and no-nonsense approach as the right tools to create jobs and strengthen the economy for the benefit of all Texans.

Senator Wendy Davis of Fort Worth said, "I'm supporting Bill White for Governor because he has the business background and management experience needed in these tough times. Texans want real leadership that brings people together to get things done."

Representative Rene O. Oliveira of Brownsville added, "I'm proud to endorse Bill White for governor. He understands the needs of the entire state, not just those of the privileged few. He is a successful businessman who has proven himself in the public arena as Houston's mayor, and will ably represent Texas as its next governor. Texas needs Bill White's experience and sound business judgment as we face tough times ahead."

Representative Allen Vaught of Dallas emphasized Bill's political courage and understanding of the important connections between education and Texas' economic future, saying, "I am proud to endorse Bill White for Governor because he shares my vision of a Texas that has a long lasting, strong economy supported by investment in excellent public schools, top tier universities, better transportation infrastructure, safer neighborhoods and cleaner air and water. Bill White is a proven leader and has the common sense and courage to do what is right for Texas."

The son of San Antonio school teachers, White helped build a law firm and managed a successful business before being elected Houston's mayor in 2003. Since then, he's been re-elected twice with 86% and 91% of the vote. During White's administration, Houston led the nation's cities in job growth, adding more jobs than sixteen states combined. At the same time, he cut property tax rates five years in a row and helped seniors with tax relief. White also started a special initiative that gives returning veterans the welcome they deserve with coordinated social services, reductions in red tape, and employment opportunities. After Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Ike, Bill White mobilized effective disaster response including first responders, businesses and churches. For his compassionate, hands-on leadership after Katrina, White received the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in 2007. Previously, he served as Deputy Secretary of Energy of the United States.

Mientras los Republicanos debaten, los líderes a lo ancho de Texas se unen a favor Bill White.
Los legisladores dicen que Bill White es la mejor opción para el futuro del estado.

HOUSTON, TEXAS – Miembros de la Legislatura Estatal respaldaron de manera abrumadora al ex-alcalde de Houston, Bill White, como la mejor opción para ser el próximo Gobernador de Texas. Mientras los candidatos gubernatoriales Republicanos debaten, los líderes Democráticos están unidos detrás de Bill White.

Hijo de maestros originarios de San Antonio, White ayudó a construir un bufete legal y administró una exitosa empresa antes de convertirse en Alcalde de Houston en el 2003. Desde entonces, White fue re-elegido en dos ocasiones, recibiendo un 86 y un 91 por ciento del voto popular. Bajo la administración de Bill White, Houston se convirtió en el líder nacional en creación de nuevos empleos, creando más nuevos empleos que dieciséis otros estados combinados. Simultáneamente, White redujo los impuestos de propiedad durante cinco años consecutivos, y disminuyo los impuestos a los ancianos. White también generó una iniciativa especial diseñada para recibir a los veteranos de guerra tal como lo merecen, coordinando agencias de servicios sociales, reduciendo tramas burocráticas, y ofreciéndoles nuevas oportunidades de empleo.
